Terms of service
The formal version. We have tried to keep it readable.
1. Who you are dealing with
Half-Day House is a website design studio operating from Houston, Texas. You can reach us at hello@halfdayhouse.com, and replying to any email we send you comes straight to us. In these terms "we" and "us" mean Half-Day House, and "you" means the person or business buying the work.
Using this site or submitting a brief means you accept these terms.
2. What we do
We design and build a one-page website for your business from the brief you fill in. A first draft is assembled quickly using AI tooling, and a human designer then reviews, corrects and finishes it before you ever see it. We tell you this plainly because it is how the work gets done at this price, and because you should know what you are buying.
We do not build online shops, booking systems, customer logins, or custom software as part of the standard service. If you need one of those, ask and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
3. Price
- $299 once, for the build.
- $29 per month for the care plan. The first month is included, so the first $29 is charged 30 days after you approve your site, and monthly after that.
That means $299 is the total due at checkout. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that may apply. Payment is taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
Your card is stored by Stripe when you check out so the care plan can renew. Cancel before the first $29 falls due and you are never charged for it.
4. When you pay
Not until you have seen your finished site and approved it. There is no deposit. If you never approve it, you are never charged, and you owe us nothing for the work already done.
5. The free redesign
If the first site misses, tell us what is wrong and we will design a second one from scratch at no cost. This is included once per project.
If the second one also misses, we will discuss it with you. That conversation may end in a third attempt at an agreed price, or in us parting company, in which case you pay nothing and keep nothing. We decide in good faith whether a request is a redesign or an edit, and we will explain our reasoning if you disagree.
6. What the care plan includes
While your care plan is active we provide:
- Registration and renewal of one domain name for your site
- Hosting, an SSL certificate, and keeping the site online
- Changes to your site's content: text, photos, prices, hours, contact details, and adding or removing sections
It does not include building new functionality (shops, bookings, logins, member areas), designing a logo, writing marketing copy for other channels, running advertising, or search engine optimization campaigns. We may decline a request that amounts to a new website rather than a change to this one, and where we do we will quote for it separately.
We aim to make changes the same working day. That is an aim, not a contractual deadline.
7. Your domain name
We register and pay for one domain name for you, and it is covered by your care plan. We hold it on your behalf, not as our own.
You can take it with you at any time, for any reason, at no charge. Ask us and we will start the transfer to any registrar account you name, promptly and without conditions. We will not hold a domain hostage over an unpaid invoice or a cancellation.
If you already own a domain, we will connect it to your site instead, and the care plan price is the same.
8. Cancelling
The care plan runs month to month. Cancel it whenever you like by emailing us, and it runs to the end of the month you have already paid for. We do not refund part months.
When it ends, we stop hosting the site and it comes offline. On request we will give you the complete HTML file for your site, free, so you can host it elsewhere. If we registered your domain, we will transfer it to you as described above.
We may cancel a care plan with 30 days' notice, or immediately if payment fails repeatedly or the site is used for something in section 10.
9. Who owns what
Everything you send us stays yours: your text, your photographs, your logo, your business name.
Once you have paid the build fee, the design and code of your site are yours to keep and to use for your business, including elsewhere. We keep the right to show your site in our own portfolio and marketing unless you ask us in writing not to, which you are free to do at any time.
10. What we need from you
You are responsible for the accuracy of what you tell us, and for having the right to use everything you send. Do not send us photographs, logos, text, reviews or menus you do not have permission to use.
We will not build a site that is unlawful, that impersonates another business, that makes claims we can see are false, or that we judge to be harmful or deceptive. If we decline for one of these reasons, we will say so and you will not be charged.
11. Uptime and things going wrong
We host on Cloudflare and expect your site to be available essentially all of the time, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service and we are not liable for outages at our hosting or domain providers.
12. Limits on our liability
We are a small studio selling a $299 website. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim connected to this service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for lost profits, lost business, lost data, or any indirect or consequential loss.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects an active client, we will email you before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, and any dispute will be handled in the courts of Harris County, Texas.
15. Talking to us first
If something has gone wrong, email us before anything else. Almost everything is fixable by a person reading your message properly.
